Remembering the 2004 Tsunami
I was just reminded that today is the third anniversary of the disastrous Tsunami that claimed thousands of lives in Thailand in 2004. I choose to remember the beautiful images of Phuket, Thailand from my trip last year. Looking at this photo I took in May 2007, filled with blue skies, golden sandy beaches and content vacationers, it's hard to imagine anything but peace and tranquility.
During the Tsunami, two meter high waves pounded relentlessly into the hotel pictured above, flooding into the pool and the first floor. The waves didn't reach maximum strength, fortunately because the water is so deep in this area. There is no evidence remaining of any sort of Tsunami damage these days. We loved this place so much that we are planning on visiting in 2008 again, hopefully. Today, events will be held all over Asia in memory of the terrible, tragic event that took place in 2004.
