A Globetrotter's Christmas

GlobetrotterChristmas came early for me today when I checked the post. I received in my postbox, the gift that keeps on giving, that being the gift of "travel." No, it wasn't an all inclusive trip to an exotic island somewhere(maybe next time) but something that would come in handy if that did(and should) happen.

Anyhow, I wasn't sure exactly what this mystery package contained but the travel ambiance was created after I opened the envelope. One look at the wrapping and I knew I was in for a treat. I knew whatever was inside had something to do with travel as the brown wrapping, enclosed in binder twine and covered with stamps from such popular destinations as Italy, Portugal and Belgium gave it away. If that doesn't plant the seed for wanderlust, I don't know what will.

I didn't want to ruin the wrapping so I removed it slowly and carefully. A card stamped with Bermuda, Auckland and Mexico was included. After carefully removing the wrapping and the card, there was a little black box wrapped in cellophane. Inside of the black gift box was a little black book aptly titled the Globetrotter's LogBook with an embossed blue globe and a person peering curiously out into the wonderful world on the cover.

The aged pages help give this charming, androgynous, little book character. There are 193 countries listed, information about each country, built in book mark and elastic band to keep the book closed when not in use. There is of course information on Denmark including its population, and its capital Copenhagen(just in case I forget).

This book will come in useful as it includes a vaccination register and we have to go in for hepatitis vaccinations soon. I'm not looking forward to it and couldn't remember when I last had them done. Also, included in this handy dandy little book is a flight register.

The piece de resistance is free access to the "International Globetrotter's Ranking," which is a database of fellow globetrotters from all over the world. Besides all the above-mentioned this little gem comes complete with famous quotes, helpful links and websites. There are also some interesting trivia and facts at the back of the book including maps and environmental facts. There is plenty of room to write notes and reminders, which is sometimes missing from other guidebooks.

If you are anything like me when you are travelling, you are scrambling in every which direction for information on your destination, reaching for scrap paper to make notes, digging through your purse trying to find flight information, country information etc. This compact book provides a central location for all of this vital information.

Now, I can't wait to put it to use and give those pages an even more weathered look, but I'll need to do some more globetrotting first. That will first be in 2008, off to destinations unchartered with my little, black Globetrotter's LogBook in tow.
