International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

Millions of people the world over will participate in two minutes silence in tribute and memory to those less fortunate in the world. The tribute hopes to serve as a reminder that the governments and people in general should be actively trying to banish poverty the world over.

In Copenhagen the activities for International Poverty Day will be held at the City Square beginning at 5:00 p.m. today (so if you skiddaddle you can still make it). There will be music and no doubt some politically charged speeches. There is sure to be mention of the year 2000 when 189 governments vowed to abolish poverty and sickness worldwide.

Take the time to "Stand up and Speak Out" as the FN's Eradication of Poverty Day slogan goes. Besides being for a great cause, there is also hope that this year's tribute will break all past records and make it into the Guiness World Record Books. Last year there were 34 million people who participated worldwide. Hopefully, this year will attract even more participants.
