Copenhagen International Film Festival

An event that I'm looking forward to, that takes place every September in Copenhagen is the Copenhagen International Film Festival. This year, Denmark's premiere film festival takes place from September 20th to 30th.  It  is open to the general public as well as industry insiders and media. This eleven day extravaganza features a smorgasbord of 147 national and international films.

One highlight of the festival is the "Alice Award" which is awarded to the best film by a female director . It is presented by the Copenhagen International Film Festival in cooperation with Women in Film and Television (WIFT). This year there are eight films by female directors competing for this prestigious award. The films that are nominated for this year's Alice Award are...

Fissures- Alante Kavaite (France)
Fraulein - Andrea Štaka (Germany/Switzerland)
Vivere- Angelina Maccarone (Germany)
It Happened Just Before- Anja Salomomowitz (Austria)
Hounds- Ann-Kristin Reyels (Germany)
Sounds of Sand- Marion Hänsel (Belgium/France)
A Parting Shot - Jeanne Waltz (France/Switzerland)
The Year After- Isabelle Czajka (France)

The films will be shown in different cinemas around Copenhagen and you can order the tickets directly from the cinemas via the internet or telephone. A "film pass" can be purchased at various Magasin stores throughout the country or at the Dagmar Cinema.
