Psyched for September

Well, I certainly hope that September goes better than August. I'm not going to lie. I saw the glass half empty in August. I guess it is true when they say "when it rains it pours." I had a series of disappointments, some of which I'd rather not go into. For one, I was supposed to have an article I had written about Thailand published in a cool magazine. I was really looking forward to seeing my article and photos all decked out in an interesting, glossy, print magazine. It was not meant to be however, as I was recently informed that the magazine went belly up just in time for my article NOT to be published. I guess it's worse news for the editor as he's now out of a job, he tells me.

It kind of reminds me of a story an old acquaintance of mine once told me. He was a professional photographer and doing his first photo series for a magazine. He'd worked diligently on it for months and months. He then waited anxiously for his day in the sun. He checked the mailbox regularly until the happy day when the popular magazine arrived at his door. Excitedly, he flipped through the trendy magazine to find his four page photo spread decked out in all of its glory. It looked great except for one teensy, little problem. The credit was given to another photographer! Worse yet, the photographer who received the credit had only ever been rude to him. I mean, it would have been a little less painful if they'd at least given the credit to a decent guy.

The moral of the story is we've all been there in one way or another. I once read (on someone else's blog) that life is like one big wave, full of ups and downs. Hopefully, September will bring one huge, consistently high tidal wave that never crashes....
