Denmark's Orangutan Rescuer

OrangutanA few weeks back, DR 1 - a television station here in Denmark - showed a documentary about the vanishing orangutan. To be honest, I'd never really thought much about the plight of the orangutan but I haven't been able to stop thinking about this particular documentary.

It was about a Danish wonder woman, Lone D. Nielsen who runs an orangutan centre in Nyaru Menteng ...

Who is the Murderer?

I wrote way back in March about a popular Danish TV series called "Forbrydelsen," which translated to English means "The Crime." It's basically a murder mystery about a young girl named Nanna Birk Larsen who was tragically killed. It really is a wonderful series with a ensemble cast. In fact, since I wrote about it many months ago this particular TV show ended up on the short list for an Emmy ...

Copenhagen Film Festival Reminder

Just a friendly reminder that the Copenhagen Film Festival starts today! For more information read my earlier blog or visit their site. I jumped the gun a bit by posting about it a bit too early.

Speaking of films, I may be involved in some interesting projects but I dare not write about them yet as you never know whether these things materialize or not and then I just end up making a ...

Madeleine, Phuket and Condolences

I've decided that today's blog will have little to do with Copenhagen but instead a mish mash of thoughts and feelings relating to two of the world's most recent events and talked about stories. First, the Madeleine McCann case. I, like many people have been following along with the case of the 4 year old British girl who disappeared while vacationing in Portugal with her parents and siblings. I know ...

SAS Cancels Flights

SAS Airlines is synonymous with security and safety. However, an episode that occurred here last weekend left a few people shaking in their shoes. A Dash-8 airplane was forced to make a crash landing in Aalborg Airport here in Denmark because the right side of the landing gear gave way. It was pretty horrific to watch it on TV. I can't imagine what the experience was like for the passengers. ...

My Secret Lover

I was just watching MTV here and a really catchy little pop song came on. It's called "My Secret Lover " by a band called Private . Anyhow, I've been dancing to it and trying to learn the words. It kind of reminds of that 80's song "Somebody's Watching Me" by the band Rockwell if you remember that tune. I can also hear similarities to some of Michael Jackson's stuff ...

Vikaren's Scary Toronto Premiere

A while back I talked about a nationally acclaimed Danish horror film by Ole Bornedal called "Vikaren." The long and short of it is that it is about a substitute teacher that is cruel to the students but convinces the parents that she is as sweet as pie. The children complain about her but no one believes them.

Apparently, this film was recently shown at the Toronto Film Festival. The kids ...

Copenhagen International Film Festival

An event that I'm looking forward to, that takes place every September in Copenhagen is the Copenhagen International Film Festival. This year, Denmark's premiere film festival takes place from September 20th to 30th.  It  is open to the general public as well as industry insiders and media. This eleven day extravaganza features a smorgasbord of 147 national and international films.

One highlight of the festival is the "Alice Award" which is awarded to ...

Chaos in Copenhagen Continues

Earlier this year I blogged about a group of young people's fight for the right to occupy a "youth house" situated in Copenhagen. To make a long story short, once upon a time there was a house on Jagtvej 69 in Copenhagen that a group of young people used for a variety of social activities. They never owned the house but were permitted to use it as they will. The house was an ...

Psyched for September

Well, I certainly hope that September goes better than August. I'm not going to lie. I saw the glass half empty in August. I guess it is true when they say "when it rains it pours." I had a series of disappointments, some of which I'd rather not go into. For one, I was supposed to have an article I had written about Thailand published in a cool magazine. I ...
