Copenhagen Fashion Week
Two glamorous times a year, in February and August the fashion gods meet and greet in Copenhagen for Europe’s largest fashion event, “Copenhagen Fashion Week." It's that time of the year again and this week, August 8th to the 12th, they are showing off the spring and summer collection for 2008. No need to go to Milan, Paris, London or New York when you can find the same calibre of fashion in Copenhagen.
The event itself is organised by the Danish Fashion Institute whose purpose is to spread the word about Danish fashion and to move Danish fashion onwards and upwards on a worldwide scale. Denmark is world renowned for its clean, practical, quality designs generally and this ideology also transfers over to wearable Danish Fashion.
There are approximately 80 fashion activities, 30 of which are fashion shows. 20,000 buyers come to town and in total 50,000 of fashion’s most influential people from more than 40 countries descend on the city.
The bad news is that most of the activities are only open to people who work exclusively in the fashion world. However, if you are in Copenhagen you can be there, without actually being there because there are huge screens set up at the town square a.k.a. Rådhuspladsen, Halmtorvet and Højbro Place. The shows are run everyday from 09:00 a.m. to 2:00 am on a large screen.
So unless you have a friend of a friend of a friend who can get you a ticket to this exclusive party that’s the best we can do. Some of the shows are also being shown at their official website on Copenhagen Fashion Week TV.
