Baltic Sail(s) Off Into the Sunset
North of Copenhagen lies the historic city of Helsingør and from the 17th to the 19th of August it is the scenic location for the annual Baltic Sail arrangement for the 11th year running. The Baltic Sail arrangement is a gathering point, if you will of a variety of beautiful ships from around the world. It's a glorious display that has been an integral part of Helsingør's summer scene for 10 years running and unfortunately this year is rumoured to be the last.
The reason being is work is slated to be done in and around Helsingør's Harbour area in the near future which means that it won't be possible to sufficiently accommodate such a large group of ships. There are 40 different ships expected at this year's Baltic Sail. Many different types and sizes of ships are expected but the flagship participating for the first time ever will be the Canadian "Concordia." Some of the ships will offer a sail tour while others have an open house arrangement in the harbour.
With the world famous Kronborg Castle as its backdrop, the entire scenic area surrounding the harbour will display artist's works and maritime souvenirs as well as a smorgasbord of food and drink. There will be photo and artistic displays and musical entertainment in the form of jazz and shanties. It all ends with an impressive firecracker show. The arrangement begins officially Friday the 17th august 13:00 pm but you can enjoy a glimpse of the ships the day before. Entré no charge.
