A Hotel with a View
While in Phuket, Thailand we had the pleasure of staying at the Karon Beach Resort. This cosy and quiet hotel is nestled in a small cove in the southern corner of Karon Beach. It is the only hotel located directly on the beach in the area. Set among coconut palms, the beachfront property is fanned by gentle sea breezes. Great views from spacious, air-conditioned rooms which overlook the swimming pool, gardens, golden beach and perfect sunsets are accessible from every room.
The staff is friendly and super accommodating. Although the clientele seemed to run the gambit from young couples to senior citizens, I did notice that there were only a few families with children. It could be because we were visiting in the "low season," or it could be because the shoreline isn't especially accommodating for children.
There is a very sudden deep, drop off in the water, a strong current and it can get very wavy, therefore it is probably not as ideal for swimming as some of the other beaches in the area. The fact that there is a sudden drop off actually protected them from the Tsunami of 2004 I learned, as it only reached a height of two metres in this area and only managed to flood the swimming pools and seep into the first level hotel rooms.
There are two swimming pools that never seem to be overcrowded. What this hotel is not is "party central" and there is not much nightlife in the evenings, other than a small bar. For that you'll have to go out on the town, which is on the hotel's doorstop or head to nearby Patong Beach.
There's a nice shaded breakfast area and restaurant right along the golden sand beach with great views over the ocean. There is a sundeck with poolside bar and massage area. The photo above, taken from our room is of our terrasse and the view we awoke to every day..The swimming pool is directly over on the other side of the palm tree and bushes and the beach is just beyond that, down a small flight of stairs...lovely!
