Byrd and Feathers

I'm not going to lie to you; I have an embarrassing little secret. Don't tell anyone but I like to hang out at myspace. In fact, I'm there so often these days that I'm beginning to think that I need an intervention. Is there a "myspace anonymous" in the works yet?
I love myspace but what music lover doesn't, really. Some songs you listen to once or twice and then there are others, the special ones that you play dozens of times, over and over again until they become ingrained into your subconscious.
I'm not a music reviewer in any way shape or form, but I know what I like and have listened to hundreds of songs and artists over the last few months. There are songs that move you and others that just don't make the grade. Some have staying power and some don't.
Well, Brad Byrd's songs fall under the former category. I've listened and sang along to Brad's songs so many times that I am beginning to think I was Brad Byrd in a former life -albeit a not so musically gifted version! So, I felt a little bit guilty about continually "freeloading" his music off of his myspace. I've just recently broken down and ordered his CD, "The Ever Changing Picture," from Amazon.
Meaningful, honest lyrics, accompanied by a great, natural voice all describe his sound. Songs about real feelings but not so depressing that you feel like throwing yourself in front of a moving bus. I don't know what music genre you'd classify him under. A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll perhaps.
But it's not just his music that's the kicker; he has an inspirational life story to accompany the songs. The short version is he started playing music while at Syracuse University, playing will college pals Adam Cohen - yes, Leonard Cohen's son - and Pete Yorn. After college he moved to New York where he successfully worked in the corporate world but gave it all up, packed up his guitar, and hightailed it on out to Los Angeles to follow his dream. Brad's songs have been featured in various TV shows and films.
Now back on his home turf in Massachusetts, he's working on his 2nd full length studio record which is bound to be dynamite. Check out Brad Byrd here.
