Denmark's Power Princess

To all of you royal watchers out there, or anyone who hasn't heard the happy news already, earlier this week our Crown Prince Frederik and his Australian born Princess Mary gave birth to a healthy, little baby girl. Mom and baby are doing well, apparently.

The little bundle of joy weighs in at 3350 gram (7.5 pounds) and is 50 centimeters (20 inches) long.  Simply known as "The Little Girl," her official name has not been disclosed as of yet. Oddsmakers are placing their bets on Margrethe and Henrietta. Others, are suggesting more nontraditional names like Heidi or Malou.

A princess hasn't been born into the Danish Royal Family for 61 years and a lot has changed since then. Being a princess in today's Denmark will be a far cry from yesteryear.  Gone are the days, when a princess married off young, only to spend the rest of her days lounging around drinking tea and eating crumpets.

This little gal will expected to be an all-round, modern princess. Observers and sociologists suspect that she'll get married later in life, complete a high education and involve herself in rolls not traditionally geared towards a princess. Perhaps she'll even join the army, who knows.

The little princess has one older brother, named Christian. A new law is in the works here so that she will have her rightful place in succession to the throne. As it stands now, if Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have another child and it is a boy, he will spring over the princess, in line to the throne.
