Copenhagen's Botanical Gardens

If you happen to be in the Copenhagen area, now is the perfect time to enjoy the weather, take a leisurely stroll and visit Copenhagen's Botanical Gardens.  The Botanical Gardens were established in the 1870's and noted as one of Europe's most exceptional botanical gardens. This 24 acre paradise located smack dab in the heart of Copenhagen provides visitors and Danes alike the opportunity to escape the hectic city life.

The sounds of waterfalls and birds singing replace the screeching noise of vehicles. A garden paradise is what you will find with the 13,000 kinds of plants, both under glass and outdoors.  To put this in perspective, there are only 11,000 various plant species in the entire of Europe and approximately 300,000 in the entire world.  Located on a former fortifications area of the city, the gardens are surrounded by a stone wall.  Inside, there is also a lake that displays water plants.

If you are inspired to create your own little garden paradise you might be interested in visiting the nearby Botanisk Haves Butik, where you will find a good choice of plants and plant books.
