Copenhagen's Amalienborg Palace

Amelienborg Palace in Copenhagen Day 7) Back to Copenhagen and my top 10 list. Amalienborg Palace, is the Danish Royal Castle and is the primary royal residence and the winter home (December through April) of the Danish royal family. It is a major architectural work and probably the most outstanding piece of Rococo architecture in Denmark.

The Amalienborg Palace complex consists of four French-style palaces built around a ...

Summer Dreaming in Copenhagen

Sal, Cape VerdeWell, it is snowy and cold here in Denmark, approximately 3 degrees. I’ve tried to enjoy it as much as possible by taking strolls in the woods, building a snow fort and making snow angels with some children I work with.

To be honest though, I’d rather be in 30 degree weather soaking up the sun. Winter has attacked with a vengeance the last week ...

How do we Get Rid of the Others?

How to Get Rid of the OthersWell, today I’m taking another detour again. I hope you don’t mind. I just received an invitation to a premiere of a soon to be released Danish film called “Hvordan vi Slipper af med de andre”, which translated to English means “How to Get Rid of the Others”.  Produced by Zentropa, the film is directed by award winning Director Anders ...

Denmark's Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Day 6) I am finally back to my top 10 list. You are probably thinking that by the time she gets through it,  I’ll have been to Copenhagen 10 times already! Today I’ll be taking you to the well known “Louisiana Museum of Modern Art”. Louisiana Museum is located in the town of Humlebæk, about 10km(6 miles) south of Helsingør and 35km(22 miles) north of Copenhagen.

Beautifully situated on the coast ...

Paolo Nutini in Copenhagen

Paolo Nutini - photo by Jennifer Wattam Klit   Paolo Nutini - photo by Jennifer Wattam KlitWell, last night was the night 20 year old Paolo Nutini came to town. Paolo Nutini, the name rolls off of the tongue like chocolate and that is exactly how the experience of watching him perform live felt.... "like chocolate".

The audience at last nights concert was a ...

Hamlet's Haunted Kronborg Castle

kronborg_ny.jpg

Day 5) Today, I will be taking you to the world famous Kronborg Castle, located in Helsingør, just 50 kilometres (30 miles) north of Copenhagen. Kronborg Castle is particularly near and dear to my heart because I was fortunate enough to be married there. Kronborg Castle is probably best known as the inspiration for William Shakespeare’s play "Hamlet". The first performance of Hamlet at Kronborg ...

Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens

Day 4) Tivoli Gardens, located smack dab in the centre of Copenhagen and minutes from the City Hall Square is a world famous, historic amusement park. However, Tivoli feels much more like a public garden than a theme park.

Founded in 1843, it is a beautiful, romantic park with lanterns in the trees that create a unique and charming atmosphere. Tivoli was inspired by the so called “romantic pleasure gardens” of Europe, ...

Copenhagen’s Beautiful Babes

sb0944.jpg

Day 3) Well, I couldn’t get very far in my top ten list without mentioning Denmark’s beautiful women. Everywhere you turn in Copenhagen there is another beautiful Dane, no matter the time or the place. While on visit here, my brother was gob smacked while in the city. He’d say “there goes another, and another, and another” or “look at her!”  “Well, they are everywhere here,” ...

Copenhagen's Infamous "Freetown" Christiania

Day 2) If you are looking for an inspiring and unique attraction defying most of the trends of modern society then check out Christiania! Christiania also known as “Freetown” and named after King Christian IV is a tight knit, partially self-governing community of Bohemians with their own set of rules somewhat independent of the Danish government.

Located on 80 acres of plush land on the south-eastern side of Copenhagen, Christiania was ...

Copenhagen's Most Abused Little Lady

sb0929.jpg

For the next little while I will be sharing with you the top 10 things to see and do in Copenhagen. There may be a few hiccups along the way for breaking news and the like, but I’ll try to stay focused. Feel free to chime in if you have a story about any of the places I mention.

Day 1) Head towards Copenhagen Harbor and visit ...
