Christmas in Denmark
Well, I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and an even better Boxing Day. The weather was a little grey and dull in Copenhagen and surrounding areas. We’d hoped for snow but got none, zilch, notta. This year 30,000 Danes escaped the Christmas rush by travelling elsewhere, that’s 5,000 more than last year. The favoured destinations for Danes this time of year are: The Canary Islands, Thailand and Egypt. Hmm….maybe next year..
Other than that, not much happening here except some fella who’d had one too many to drink attempted to set fire to the Christmas tree in Copenhagen’s Central Square. Apparently, he had gasoline and a lighter ready to go. Some observant passersby caught the wannabe pyromaniac in the act and stopped him from burning the tree down. The poor lad ended up enjoying Christmas in the slammer.
As for our Christmas, we ate a traditional meal of roast pork, duck, red cabbage, gravy and potatoes. After dinner we held hands and danced around the Christmas tree and then opened our presents. Hey, I got a new pair of shoes, speaking of which, have you heard the song “New Shoes?” It’s by a 19 year old Scottish songwriter/singer named Paolo Nutini. He’s performing at Lille Vega in Copenhagen the 18th of January and guess what? I got tickets. So if you’re in the area and can manage to get tickets stop by to enjoy the show but I’m not giving mine up so don’t ask okay?
Those of you in the States and Canada will be blessed with his presence the end of January when he starts his stateside tour. If you like Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart, James Blunt and Daniel Powter you’ll love Paolo Nutini. Beg, steal, cheat and borrow to get tickets to see him or buy his album. He’s really wonderfully talented.
