See Operas and More FREE at Vienna's Rathaus Film Festival

The Rathaus Film Festival covers famed operas, ballets, and concerts.
July marks the opening of Vienna's annual Rathaus Film Festival, when folding chairs and a jumbo flat screen take over the city hall plaza to display famous operas, ballets, concerts, and more. The festival shows performances every night, beginning at about 9pm (when it begins to get dark), and runs through the first week of September. In addition to performances on the big screen, the festival plays an hour or so of classical or opera music before each viewing, creating a great atmosphere for dining at any of the many food stalls surrounding the screening area. Performance highlights for the remainder of July include a Brandenburg Symphony concert of Bach pieces, a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, and a recording of "Louis Armstrong - Live in Australia". The August lineup includes the ballets "Eugin Onegin" and "Swan Lake", the opera "La Boheme", and a modern film interpretation of "Peter & The Wolf". Admission is free.
