Day Trips from Vienna: Laxenburg

The Laxenburg castle is surrounded by a moat.
Laxenburg is a small town about 15km south of Vienna and its public park is definitely worth visiting. The main attraction there is the moat-surrounded castle in good condition. Tours of the castle and dungeon are available as well as boat rentals along the moat, which is full of fish and water fowl. The castle also boasts a wonderful outdoor cafe and cute gift shop. The grounds there are extensive, with numerous beautiful walking paths affording incredible views of the castle, grotto, surrounding foliage, stone fountains, bridges and other structures. As an added perk, a scrumptious gelato shop lies on the corner between the bus stop and the park entrance. The Aschanti (candied peanuts) flavor is amazing. To get there, take the 1156 or 566 bus from Sudtiroler Platz, near Sudbanhof. Fare for the bus costs 1.70 euro and entrance to the park is about 2 euro.
