Beer Comes First at Vienna's Eipeltauer Brewery

The Eipeltauer Brewery is an oasis in a secluded part of the city.

At the Eipeltauer Brewery, the beer comes first. Fresh organic beer is brewed on-site and it is worth a trip out to the Spittelau area of Vienna. Each half-liter of Maerzen is cool, flavorful, and reasonably priced. As many as three more beer types, including a dark (Dunkel), are expected to be added in July. The food is a bargain as well. A limited menu offers a small sampling of dishes done well, like schnitzel, salads, and dark bread pizzas. Main dishes were a great value at only 5-7 euro. The location of the brewery, a quiet industrial lot, is perhaps a bit lacking in class and presentation, but it sports a pleasant outdoor seating area with wooden tables and benches. The premises are clean and comfortable and the owner is happy to answer any questions. During the Euro Cup, there is also a large projector screen just inside the entrance for great game-viewing. As an added perk, on the way to the brewery, you'll pass by Vienna's famous trash incinerator building (Fernwaerme Wien), which is decorated in the Jugendstil style (Austrian Art Nouveau).
