Vienna's Secession Building Is Art In Itself

The Secession can be seen from the edge of the Naschmarkt.
When exiting or entering Vienna's Naschmarkt from the Karlsplatz end, be sure to catch a gimpse of the picturesque Secession building. The building is one of Vienna's famous landmarks and served as a place for cutting-edge Jugendstil (German version of art nouveau) artists to display their work. Today, it houses a lovely art museum that contains Gustav Klimt's "Beethoven Frieze"and other rotating exhibitions. Its glass dome roof, which is covered in beautifully intertwined gilded leaves, is an attraction in itself. The gilded dome has even been named the "Golden Cabbage" by the local Viennese. Entrance to the museum is inexpensive and guided tours are available on Saturdays at 3pm and Sundays at 11am. For more information, visit www.secession.at.
