Vienna's Freyung Easter Market Captures the Rustic Spirit

Hand-decorated eggs fill the center of the market square.
In the final days before Easter, be sure to check out the Freyung Easter market. The market inhabits a small cobblestone plaza in the first district (near Stephansdom city center) and is authentic, cozy, and rustic in its aesthetics and offerings. The focal point of the market is the huge display area of hand-decorated eggs for sale in the center of the market stalls. There is also a small stage where puppet shows (10am weekdays), musical performances (4:30pm weekdays and various times on the weekend), and games (4:30pm weekdays and various times on the weekend) take place. A few stalls to the right of the stage, there is a wooden stall containing happily munching, snoozing, and hopping live rabbits, adding to the Easter festivity. Of course, there are also several wooden stalls selling Easter decorations, honey products, handmade items, food, and beverages. In addition, multiple organic farmers and organic food purveyors arrive on Fridays and Saturdays to sell their dairy products, grains, meat, produce, and hand-canned/bottled goods. There is even a stall selling organic microbrew beer.
