Stomach Restaurant Will Give You Your Fill in Vienna

The Etre Cote steak steals the show.

With its name, Stomach boldly pays homage to its No. 1 customer. While the food alone could encourage anyone to frequent the cafe, the dining atmosphere is also pleasant. Rustic country elegance dominates the decor. Dried flowers in simple glass vases and clean white linens top the quality antique wooden tables. Dark wooden beams and shelves and a ceramic woodstove also add a homey feel. Tables are spaciously arranged for privacy and you will surely catch a glimpse of the resident black cat scampering about the rooms. At Stomach, everything is comfortable and relaxed, but done well and with purpose in a style that synchronizes with its relaxed surroundings, somewhat reminiscent of impeccable French dining.

Meals are served atop pristine but simple white dishes, and new seasonal items update the menu each week. Meat and starch comfort foods are the norm. They are unfussy and expertly cooked to let the flavors of the fresh meats and vegetables shine through. The pastas are particularly good, with Red Beet Ravioli (Rote Ruben Teigtaschen €9) being a recent menu resident. The steak with olives and mashed potatoes (Etre Cote, €18), lamb chops with arugula, zucchini, and garlic gnocchi (Lamm Kotelettes €18), fresh pork sausages with gnocchi (Schweinswurstel €10), and cream of parsnip soup (Pastinakencremesuppe €3.50) are all excellent. The restaurant also serves a number of esteemed Styrian wines to complement the dishes served.
