United Nations Tours and Gifts in Vienna

United Nations complex in Vienna
When looking for an indoor activity in Vienna, consider visiting the United Nations, one of the few buildings of its kind in the world. Similar to the construction and function of the New York, Geneva, and Nairobi United Nations complexes, the Vienna site was erected in 1979. Tours of the Vienna United Nations occur daily Monday-Friday at 11am and 2pm for a €5 entry price. No reservations or appointments for the tour are necessary.
Housed within the Vienna United Nations are the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Preperatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Treaty Organization (CTBTO Prep. Com.), along with a few other agencies and organizations. On the tour, you'll see some of the various halls and meeting rooms that comprise the United Nations complex.
The gift shop housed by the entrance to the United Nations is also worth a look. Items for sale include shirts and other merchandise with bearing the UN Vienna logo. All are reasonably priced and make great souvenirs or gifts. For more information about the Vienna United Nations, please visit http://www.unis.unvienna.org/unis/index.html or http://www.un.org/. To get there, take the U1 metro line to the VIC/Kaisermühlen station. Follow the signs toward the Vienna International Center (VIC) or Gate 1.
