Hotel Sacher's Torte is Vienna's Slice of Heaven

Luxurious chocolate cake awaits at the Sacher Eck'.

The Sacher Eck' is one of the Sacher eateries associated with the adjoining Hotel Sacher and is the perfect place to sample a slice of Vienna's original Sacher Torte. The torte is a rich, light-textured chocolate cake that sandwiches a layer of intensely sweet apricot marmalade and is covered in a soft coating of sugary chocolate. A dollop of the same marmalade filling also affixes the authentic Hotel Sacher chocolate seal to the top of each slice. An edible delight in itself, the seal is a circle of sumptuous velvety chocolate that melts in your mouth. A generous portion of whipped cream comes nestled beside each slice for a perfectly balanced orchestra of flavor. Paired with a Wiener Melange coffee (4.20), a slice of Sacher Torte (4.90) served at one of the Hotel Sacher's eating establishments is the quintessential Viennese dessert.

The atmosphere in the Sacher Eck' is chic and modern. Tall chairs and tables sit next to large windows affording marvelous views of the State Opera House (Staatsoper) across the street. Trendy club music serves as hip background noise. In addition, the Hotel Sacher torte retail store shares a room with the Sacher Eck', giving a dining experience there an even more official Hotel Sacher torte feel. Aside from the meticulously served slices of Sacher Torte, the cafe also serves elegant cocktails and appetizers like oysters and champagne. The Sacher Eck' (and Hotel Sacher torte retail store) is located by the corner of Kärntnerstrasse and Opernring. To get there, take the U1, U2, or U4 metro line to Karlsplatz and exit at the Oper end of the station. For more information, visit www.sacher.com.
