Schoenbrunn Palm House Gardens Are Lush & Lively In Vienna

Spanish moss hangs from the trees in one of the Palm House's three climate zones.
For some uplifting foliage during the dreary days of winter, visit the Schönbrunn Palm House Gardens (Palmenhaus). Erected in 1881-1882, the Palm House is sectioned off into three different climate-specific rooms filled with a variety of plants that thrive in those climates. Each climate zone, from the northern temperate to the southern tropical, is a mini vacation from the harsh winter weather outdoors. Treat the eyes and nose to gorgeous passion fruit flowers, spanish moss, and numerous palms with soft furry trunks. Sit on one of the Palm House benches and take in the relaxing atmosphere - its peaceful quiet is interrupted only by the tropical sounds of flowing and dripping water and the occasional chirping bird. Admission to the Palm House costs €4. To get there, take the U4 metro line to Hietzing.
