Vienna's Musikverein Oozes Musical Elegance

the Musikverein facade
Vienna's Musikverein concert hall is housed in a stately stone building with an even more impressive interior. It is home to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and is perhaps the best place to see classical music in Vienna. The Musikverein's Great Hall (Grosser Saal) is among the top three places in the world for room acoustics. Ticket prices vary depending on the caliber of the performers and view and sound quality from a particular seat. Seats with a decent view and good sound can usually be purchased for about €21. For those on a tight budget, standing tickets or tickets for seats directly behind the musicians (occasionally available) are an outstanding value for under €10. Performances this month (October) include the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra, and the Luxemburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Pieces to be played include those by Beethoven, Mozart, Sibelius, and others. Most performances begin at 7:30 pm. To reach the Musikverein conveniently, take the U4, U1, or U2 metro lines to the Karlsplatz station. For more information, visit www.musikverein.at.
