Too Pretty to Throw Away: The Vienna Garbage Incinerator

Fernwärme Wien

Built in the Hundertwasser style, the Vienna garbage incinerator building (“Fernwärme Wien” in German) is a work of art. Gilded accents and funky colorwork dominate the building’s facade. Other visual highlights include a bulbous tower and a red and blue hat-shaped object on the roof.

The building is an excellent sight to see for those with weary legs. The U6 metro line passes right by the it, providing an adequate view from the comfort of the metro car. For an unobstructed, more leisurely view, exit the metro at the nearest station. More information about the trash incinerator building and its function can be found at http://www.fernwaermewien.at/
