Vienna’s Neubaugasse Fills with a Flea Market

This Friday and Saturday, June 1st and 2nd, a huge sidewalk-sale-style flea market will line the edges of Vienna’s Neubaugasse. Nearby shops will transport a sampling of their wares, including sale items, curbside for the day. In addition, various other vendors from around Vienna will set up tables laden with vintage items and other discount castaways. In its entirety, the market spans more than a kilometer of road space. It remains popular with the local Viennese crowd as well as visitors. Highlights include piles of retro clothing, antique tools and a multitude home décor items.

The market’s atmosphere trumps that of the Naschmarkt Saturday flea market in that it is not as claustrophobic, the selection of goods is larger and more diverse, and the prices are far more reasonable. However, the Neubaugasse market is less frequent, taking place only twice a year instead of every Saturday. If you’re unable to make it to this weekend’s flea market, stay tuned for a reappearance in the fall.

Sales should get underway around 10 am and continue into the evening. Arrive early for the best selection. To get there, take the U3 metro line to Neubaugasse.
