When I first moved to Montreal, I remember gazing at the skyline at night from a distance away on the highway. There were four strong spotlights sweeping across the sky in four directions from on top of the tallest I could see. I thought it was amazing. I soon found out that those spotlights were directly above of Altitude 737, known to Montrealers as one of the swankiest clubs ...

Ohhh, NOW we're talking!
After an "OK" start at Kojax, I went to Montreal's next most prolific souvlaki chain called Arahova. This is a whole different "kettle of fish" (as we say back home!). A stand-alnoe restaurant, as opposed to a food-court stand and a much higher level of souvlaki enjoyment.
(psst - you can read the kojax review here)
Meat: tender and sizzling! This is just like it ...

Bars, in my opinion, should be the antithesis to everyday city life. Just like Cheers, they should be the sort of places where "everybody knows your name." An intimate, cozy setting, with friendly people, alcohol, tunes, and a nearby bathroom - an atmosphere which should be in stark contrast to that of a club. A lot of bars I've been to in Montreal seem to see no difference between bars ...

So, it came to me the other day that I should go on a city-wide hunt for the best souvlaki in town. So, here is the first in a series on our city's version of this fast-food treat!
Kojax is probably Montreal's most prolific souvlaki place. They are in most of the major shopping centres around town and have a couple of 'stand alone' locations throughout the city. ...

"Rich people are weird," a friend of mine recently mused, "they eat things that clearly taste awful just so that they aren't eating the beef and chicken the common man does all the time." Perhaps if you've been successful in life, you look for ways to distinguish yourself from the six-pack masses in more ways then the fancy car and the big house - perhaps you'd even eat things most ...

OMG - Garlic Cheese Bread to die for!
Mon Village is a little (okay, a LOT) of the beaten track, but if you're looking for a drive in the country or on your way to or from the Ottawa region it's well worth the stop.
The atmosphere is casual and the menu varied. I ate an extra order of the world's best garlic cheese bread so I opted for ...

LaBoom is to nightclub what a double Big Mac is to burger. It's the art of concept pulled to the extreme. The sneering contempt for settling - "Why decide on a theme?" the club architects might have said - "lets just do a bunch of them, and really make one of them special!"
And so they did. Club LaBoom (1254 rue Stanley) offers four distinct rooms, each boasting its own ...

One thing about Montreal I've always marvelled at is the prevalence of Arab culture in pockets of the city, a culture which manages to be self-sustaining while still avoiding any cultural disconnect from the larger city and culture. If you've been around the Concordia University ghetto area, you know what I'm talking about.
The Arab tradition of smoking a 'Shisha' (water-pipe) has been successfuly implanted into the cultural make-up of Montreal, ...
