Montreal Canadiens 2007-08 Season

Well, here we are again. My first posts on this site were about places to go have a bite to eat and watch hockey on TV. Now, I thought I'd start a whole thread on the new edition of "les Glorieux"! It's a major attraction in this city, and a passionate topic of conversation for fans.

As training camp starts (I went to a rookie camp practice yesterday!), ...

Watching all the Pretty People

Ahhh, Saturday Night in Montreal ...

What better to do than go people watching? Thursday's is a bar/club on the "strip" in downtown Montreal. This strip is the gaggle of nightclubs on Crescent St. between Rene-Levesque and Sherbrooke. There is everything here from Irish Pub's to Mexicain Restaurants to "pick-up joints". Thursday's probably falls into the latter category.

I dropped by to see what all the fuss was ...

Montreal Fringe Festival

June 7 - 17 2007, various venues

Hot on the heels of my little Grand Prix preview, here's a quick note on Montreal's "wackiest" festival. I'm talking, of course, about the St Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival .

About 100 different shows, varying from modern dance to standup comedy, stopping off at the undescribably bizarre along the way. This festival is "un-curated". This means that rather than proposing a show ...

Montreal Grand Prix Week

Wow - it's upon us already. The weekend where tourists flood Crescent Street bars and locals get as far away from downtown as possible. Okay, that makes the whole thing sound bad, doesn't it? Not so, but it's certainly not a week for the faint-of-heart.

Once a year, the F1 and its entourage come to Montreal for the Grand Prix du Canada. This entourage consists ...

To watch your problems go up in smoke...

One thing about Montreal I've always marvelled at is the prevalence of Arab culture in pockets of the city, a culture which manages to be self-sustaining while still avoiding any cultural disconnect from the larger city and culture. If you've been around the Concordia University ghetto area, you know what I'm talking about.

The Arab tradition of smoking a 'Shisha' (water-pipe) has been successfuly implanted into the cultural make-up of Montreal, ...

Body Worlds 2 at Montreal Science Center starting May 10th

If you're unfamiliar with Dr. von Hagens' work, perhaps you've heard his world traveling body exhibition called "Body World." Bringing forth a new way to look at human anatomy and biology, "Body World" consists of real preserved bodies, often stripped of their outerskin layers revealing in amazing detail of the inner workings of the human body.

What makes this exhibition even more astonishing are the positions of the bodies performing ...

Tam-Tams of Mont-Royal

Starting early May, there is a summer long gathering at the foot of Mount-Royal which attracts thousands each year. Musicians gather in groups to beat on their drums in an event that promotes freedom of artistic expression, mostly in form of music, dance and unique merchandise. The event always takes place on Sundays from noon to early evening.
Mount-Royal park and adjacent Jeanne-Mance park are filled with hundreds of locals and ...

Orange Julep is hottest drink in town

You'll never find a better place who will serve orange juice like the Julep does. We don't really know what's in the famous mix, but you know that orange juice like this is only found here in Montreal.

Located just off the Decarie highway, the Orange Julep is hard to miss. Like a beacon in the Montreal sky, the gigantic, three story "orange ball" will draw you in whether you know ...

Aloha! A restaurant with cheap, delicious crepes... who could ask for more?

Although Aloha so blatantly looks like a cheesy attempt at a Hawaiian tiki-bar smack in the middle of arctic-climate Canada, it’s desirable prices, scrumptious crepes, seasoned shawarma and extremely late hours might make you disregard your first impression.

Once you step through the front door and into the peach-coloured, tropical tourbillion of a décor which overwhelms the small eatery, all questions escape you and the only thing that remains is the ...
