Where Flowers 'Blume'

Given that I don't know jack squat about flower shops in Montreal, and I needed to get to one fast for an ikebana exhibit that I'm participating in, I did what any good sucker for design would do: go to a concept design praised flower shop. That's a whole lot to swallow. But it's actually very simple.

A Bit of Japan in Montreal

Collection du Japon is a Japanese store downtown that contains books, tea sets, kimono, home decoration, and other Japanese paraphernalia. One of the few stores that has authentic Japanese household items that aren't knock offs you would find in Chinatown.

As its name suggests Argent Tonic is a veritable treasure chest of silver jewelery. The counter tops, shelves and walls are ornamented with brooches, rings, necklaces, bracelets... mainly hand-crafted in Mexico. ...

Montreal shopping - Light up your life...

boutique-11.jpg

Walking by, you won't necessarily notice Comptoir d'Ailleurs, especially if you're hurrying along in -20º celsius weather. The long black curtains in the windows hang to create some darkness, out of which its glowing merchandise can emerge. Premium quality paraffin candle holders, made in twenty-seven different colors, rest on shelves, tables and water basins. Some are imposing enough to stand on the floor.

"Heart" and Soul

February is National Heart and Stroke Month, and, in addition to making a donation, I'm going to list the Top Ten Things we can do to commemorate this month:

10.    Join the YMCA.  By now, many of us have pooped out on those New Years' Resolutions. (I know you're not one of those folks, but there are other people reading this, you know!)
9.    Eat some heart-healthy foods.  Try a ...
