One Two Three Four and Away We Go
1234 - rather mundane and familiar numbers, but, I assure you, the club bearing the same name is anything but mundane. Nestled rather cleverly at 1234 de la Montagne, the club screams disco-chic from the moment you step inside (if you get by the bouncers that is) - with a huge main dance floor complete with all sorts of light effects and a DJ up high keeping things house and trance with just a touch of disco to keep things interesting. The second dance floor is more hip-hop and r&b-based, and there's also a VIP area directly above the main dance floor so you can keep an eye on the cool kids while keeping your distance from them.
What really endeared me to this club was its total commitment doing things right - at least when I happened to be there. The DJ mixed masterfully, the club was packed but not too packed, the lights and strobes were in full effect, confetti fell from above, and did I mention the acrobats?
Yeah, acrobats. At one point during the night, the music slowed down and the attention shifted too a shirtless young man hanging from two thick pieces of cloth reaching from the ceiling to the floor. For the next ten minutes or so he performed all sorts of twirls and tricks suspended quite high off the ground while the music picked right back up and we all stared in stunned silence. I attempted to take a picture of him, but with all the lights going off around us they didn't turn out quite right - though I still find the results strangely hypnotic:
Drinks were expensive, but hey, did I mention the ACROBATS? They probably only have such spectacle as the one I witnessed on special nights, but even without the death-defying tricks, 1234 is definitely recommended.
