Where Flowers 'Blume'
Given that I don't know jack squat about flower shops in Montreal, and I needed to get to one fast for an ikebana exhibit that I'm participating in, I did what any good sucker for design would do: go to a concept design praised flower shop. That's a whole lot to swallow. But it's actually very simple.
Due to reading about it on Creativite Montreal (a website that celebrates urban design), I "found" this little gem on St-Laurent, with amazing photos and modern flower arrangement that other flower shops can't compare to. Truly taking flower arrangement to an artform, the shop offers some of the cutest and wildly exotic plants and flowers, along with a wall chock full of modernly fashioned vases.
Unlike most flower shops found in the city, Blume is comfortably spacious with high ceilings and simple display of various plants. It isn't to say that this shop will have everything you need in terms of plants and tools, it's not Reno Depot after all, but they will offer you a modern take on contemporary flower arrangements. This means twisting large banana leaves, tying it up with beer grass, using wires and arranging orchids just so to make it an attractive center piece. There's also a catalogue portfolio you can flip through for various works done by the florists.
I don't know anything about plants and prices, so you will have to determine that for yourselves. But I'm guessing by their labor of work, the prices are probably a little higher than usual, but atypical of Plateau shop prices.
Having only been open 5 months, this shiny new shop is already busy with Spring orders as well as upcoming weddings. For people seeking a little modern plantyness to brighten up their homes, Blume could be just for you.
