Hockey and Pub Food: La Cabane

La Cabane
3872 ST LAURENT, MONTRÉAL, QC, Canada - (514) 843-7283

So, it's over, and I'm done crying about the loss, but it was a good night out!

Montreal hockey fans are in a sorry state after a 6-5 loss to the dreaded Toronto Maple Leafs. As promised (please see link below), I went out to see the game on the Main to get a feel for hockey and pub food action outside of the "marketed" sports bars. My choice was La Cabane on Boul. St Laurent and it was a nice outing.

La Cabane offers what I would call "Portugese-style" pub food. Yes burgers, fries, etc. are on the menu but so is a nice daily selection of grilled fish, lots of sausages, and other non-English-style dishes. Prices are reasonable - about what I would expect for pub-fare.

A big benefit to the place is the late hours - the kitchen closes at 2:00 am (yes, that's 2 in THE MORNING!) - so it's a good place for late night eats. Otherwise, a casual atmosphere makes for a nice (but sometimes noisy) evening out with friends. As a place to watch hockey, it was fine, althought the televisions were a bit small.

A side note: this is a fantastic place to watch World Cup Soccer - especially if you're cheering for Portugal. Show up early ...

Theo OUT.

Since Baton Rouge, both Cage aux Sports and St-Hubert near the Bell Center were booked, I had to make do with a great seat at Winston Churchill on Crescent Street. We had the tv right in front of us, and downed Daquiris and chicken wings. I don't care much for chicken wings, but the atmosphere was great!

What an ugly game though...UGLY ugly shots from Toronto, they were just damn lucky.
