Hockey and Pub Food: La Cage aux Sports

Hello Sports Fans! (And those of you who are just fans of Sports Bars)

Well, well, well, it IS an interesting time of year for hockey fans, no? We're in to the last weekend and the Eastern Conference is more goofed up than Barry Bonds' blood stream.

Tuesday night, The Boston Bruins were in town and I dropped by La Cage aux Sports in the Bell Centre to catch the end of the game and (hopefully) a bite to eat after work. The place was an absolute zoo with the post-game revelry of happy habs fans.

La Cage offers a good menu of BBQ Chicken and Ribs, with burgers, wraps, salads, wings, and other typical sports-bar fare. My experience with the place is that there is good food at okay prices, but that the hockey crowds tend to overwhelm the wait-staff. In other words, if it's crowded, the service stinks!

This was the case Tuesday as I never ended up getting served after 30 or so minutes. In a fit of inspiration, I hoofed it over to La Cage on Rene-Levesque, just East of Guy, where there was no crowd and my bartendresse (not to be confused with Latendresse who is the subject of a sports blog somewhere) tended to me quickly and easily.

In the end, not a bad experience, but watch out for the crowds! My Tortilla CLub was enjoyable and the house wine drinkable. I've had better wine, but what d'ya expect in a sports bar, eh?

The Habs will finish their regular season against the Leafs on Saturday night, I'll find another place and report in afterwords. I think I'll head up to the Main ... just in case there's a riot it's always fun there.

Theo OUT - watch out for those bouncing beach balls!
