Montreal Canadiens 2007-08 Season

Well, here we are again. My first posts on this site were about places to go have a bite to eat and watch hockey on TV. Now, I thought I'd start a whole thread on the new edition of "les Glorieux"! It's a major attraction in this city, and a passionate topic of conversation for fans.

As training camp starts (I went to a rookie camp practice yesterday!), ...

Chic Mexican Chill Time

Mesa 14 is a Mexican restaurant located in the trendy Bishop/Crescent bar area of downtown Montreal. It's also quite close to the Bell Centre (i.e. Montreal Canadiens and big-ticket concerts) and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

This is a cool place and they DON'T play that cheesy mariachi music like many other Mexican restos. That to me is a huge plus right off the bat! The atmosphere ...

Le Reservoir: Interesting Food and Home Brew

I'm a big fan of Brew-pubs, but this place somehow stayed under my radar for a long time. I was pleasantly surprised, however, when a couple of friends dragged me out to Le Reservoir the other night.

This place has a nice selection of beer (I particularly liked their India Pale Ale) and a unique food menu. It's a great part of town, just off the Main, and a ...

Watching all the Pretty People

Ahhh, Saturday Night in Montreal ...

What better to do than go people watching? Thursday's is a bar/club on the "strip" in downtown Montreal. This strip is the gaggle of nightclubs on Crescent St. between Rene-Levesque and Sherbrooke. There is everything here from Irish Pub's to Mexicain Restaurants to "pick-up joints". Thursday's probably falls into the latter category.

I dropped by to see what all the fuss was ...

Montreal's Best Souvlaki Vol IV: Villa du Souvlaki

I've been negliecting my souvlaki reviews for a while, so I thought I'd stop by an old favourite of mine, Villa du Souvlaki on Sherbrooke St. in NDG. This is one of the few souvlaki joints in town that isn't a chain and it regularly makes the Mirror's Top 5 list. The place offers typical greek/souvlaki menu, no alcohol, and a friendly family-type service.

Meat: Very nice texture and ...

N'awlins, meet french chic.

Montreal seems to have something for everyone - this is your city if you're into drinking, smoking, partying, women, men, anything really - but it holds a special place in its heart for Jazz. Personally, I love Jazz, and I can think of not much more thrilling then enjoying world-class Jazz licks on a hot summery night. Thankfully, Montreal has the same idea - the Festival International De Jazz De ...

Coolness Personified

If you were to imagine the atmosphere of a place called 'Kafein' based solely on it's name, the mental picture you paint would probably not be so far off from the reality of the so-named lounge here in Montreal. Kafein [1429A rue Bishop] combines mood lighting, comfy couches, creative cocktails, eclectic music and a wide range of shisha flavours to secure its place as one of the hippest places ...

Montreal Fringe Festival

June 7 - 17 2007, various venues

Hot on the heels of my little Grand Prix preview, here's a quick note on Montreal's "wackiest" festival. I'm talking, of course, about the St Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival .

About 100 different shows, varying from modern dance to standup comedy, stopping off at the undescribably bizarre along the way. This festival is "un-curated". This means that rather than proposing a show ...

Montreal's Best Souvlaki: Vol. III Souvlaki George

This place was voted #1 in the Mirror (a weekly paper in town) back in 1999 and it's a staple for Concordia University students. Located at the far West end of monkland Blvd. this humble looking place boasts a loyal following and pretty decent souvlaki.

Meat: nice texture, not too dry, not too greasy.

Pita Bread: yummy!! This had a very grilled feel to it. Not at all stale or rubbery.

Tsatziki ...

Montreal Grand Prix Week

Wow - it's upon us already. The weekend where tourists flood Crescent Street bars and locals get as far away from downtown as possible. Okay, that makes the whole thing sound bad, doesn't it? Not so, but it's certainly not a week for the faint-of-heart.

Once a year, the F1 and its entourage come to Montreal for the Grand Prix du Canada. This entourage consists ...
