C’est What? An Excellent Bar and Restaurant in St. Lawrence Market District

C’est What? can be found in the basement of a historic building located on Front St. E. in the St. Lawrence Market district, and has been providing a warm, relaxed atmosphere to unwind in after work since 1988. A diverse range of beers and wines, especially generous in selection from local vineyards and micro breweries, accompanies a well-rounded ‘ethno-eclectic’ menu, putting a delicious spin on standard pub fare. The menu encompasses entrees for both vegetarians and meat-eaters, along with an eclectic variety of salads and desserts, as well as a delicious mix of finger foods for snacks in between. The bar is both intimate without feeling crowded, and roomy enough for several different crowds to congregate. Patrons can lounge on couches in front of the fire, play pool in the back, or have a sit-down meal at a table to talk. A small stage graces the rear section, and is a popular venue for talented local artists from several genres: everything from creole jazz to urban pop is played here. In fact, the pub/restaurant's website takes music seriously enough to host their own online radio music station, C'est What's Next studio music bar, streaming a formidable list of indie singers and bands 24 hours a day.

I’ve been in too many bars where both the choice and quality of offerings on the menu leave much to be desired, even when the wine and beer lists are decent. Or else the fare is good, but the atmosphere is either intrusive or lacking entirely. It’s so refreshing to find a place like this to linger, with the perfect balance of good drinks, good food and good vibes.
