Oscar weekend in Toronto
Now that the spotlight has been taken off Britney Spears, her drug use, breakdown and bald head, Hollywood has returned it's focus to the Oscars. As the entertainment industry contemplates the evenings winners, losers and disappointments and fashionistas eagerly anticipate the red carpet's best and worst dressed, there's plenty to do here in Hollywood North.
Stop by the Drake Hotel anytime this weekend for a series of Oscar inspired celebration. Tonight The Drake hosts the 10th annual Reel to Real Movie Awards Special. Richard Crouse and Geoff Pevere share their predictions and thoughts on this years nominees. You can tune in to your local Rogers station to watch from home, or join the live studio audience and participate in the Oscar discussion.
Tomorrow night the Drake hosts a house party with an Oscar inspired prix fixe menu in the lounge and dining room and an entire roster of specialty martinis in honour of Oscar. Celebrate Jennifer Hudson's win (fingers crossed) with a Dreamgirls martini while listening to DJs Gary Cronin and Jude Kelly spin film-inspired jazz and funk and watching the awards as they are screened throughout the evening. For your enjoyment, the Drake has also created specialty packages in honour of Hollywood's most anticipated night. Package details can be found on the Drake's website or to book, contact Drake Reservations 416.531.5042 X100.
Not in the mood for The Drake? See some of this year's nominees this weekend. The Carlton Theatre is showing Little Miss Sunshine and Babel, both nominated for best picture. Or watch Penelope Cruz in Volver and Kate Winslet inLittle Children - the performances that earned them best actress nominations. Blood Diamond is still showing at the Scotiabank Theatre (formerly Paramount on Richmond) and Dreamgirls is playing at The Varsity. Check toronto.com for showtimes.
Feel like watching the awards on the big screen? Head over to Bloor Cinema or to O'Grady's Pub. Reservations at O'Grady's recommended.
