International Busker Festival turns Sparks Street into a stage

It isn't too late to catch jugglers, musicians, puppeteers, and magicians as they perform in Ottawa's Sparks Street outdoor mall Aug. 4-6.
All the world is their stage, and tomorrow Ottawa is the audience from 11 a.m. till the grand finale at 6 p.m. Monday.

Canada Day in the Nations Capital

Canadian Flag

There is A LOT to do in Ottawa on Canada Day, July 1st. The city buzzes with this energy that just can't be felt at any other time of the year (well, unless the Sens make it to the cup…..but that’s another story!)

No matter where you are in the city, there’s something to do. Heading to Parliament Hill to watch ...

Hot Salsa Now

So how do you like your salsa? Spicy hot, hot, hot, or perhaps instead something smooth and subtle. Whatever your preference, we have a suggestion for a night of salsa and more salsa. Start at Ahora (now) Restaurant in the Byward Market. This restaurant has a sauce for almost any taste - just step up to their salsa bar and make your selection.

A Recipe for Relaxation

Take four friends, pop them in a car, and then drive to Le Nordik Spa in Chelsea (no more than 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa). Move from steam room, to cool pool, to hot tub, to cold water fall, to Finnish sauna, to relation areas as the spirit moves you. Repeat as needed.

I had heard only great things about Le Nordik Spa and so was glad to give it a ...

Even More Ottawa Radio

Earlier this month, blogger Loralea gave some great advice on radio stations in the Ottawa area. I would like to add to her list. Each of Ottawa's two universities has its own radio station, CKCU fm and CHUO fm. These stations are predominantly student/volunteer run and offer a wide variety of programming. And a great deal of this programming offers Canadian content from local and independent artists.

CKCU 93.1 fm is the radio station for ...

Hang Out at the Hostel

For as low as $23 a night, you can spend the night at the hangman Arthur Ellis' workplace The Carleton County Jail  - now a downtown hostel (75 Nicholas Street). Of course a storm should brew and crypt grey clouds blot out a waning sun as you climb the limestone steps to the front entrance. Once upon a time you could get a free night's stay if you were brave ...

High Tea At Zoé’s

Sunday afternoon we indulged in High Tea at Zoé's in the Chateau Laurier (http://www.fairmont.com/laurier/GuestServices/Restaurants/ZoesLounge.htm). Truly it is like stepping back in time. As we walked through the front doors of the hotel and into the elegant lounge with its high ceilings, polished wood and marble, huge potted plants and discreetly attentive servers we felt as if we have traveled to an earlier era.

The tea itself was served from a ...
