Su Su Sushi O!

Simply stated, the difficulty we find with sushi restaurants in Ottawa usually has to do with the cheap and the good. Specifically, sushi that is good is often not cheap and sushi that is cheap is often not good. Despair not sushi lovers, for there is a new place in town we highly recommend.

Sushi Kan, 1280 Baseline Road, features all-u-can-eat sushi. For lunch we indulged in numerous appetizers, various sushi rolls, as well as a plate of sushi, beverages (non-alcoholic) and mango ice cream for dessert. The house Sushi Kan Roll (tempura shrimp with cucumber and fish eggs) is very good, as well as the Rainbow Roll (salmon, tuna, snapper, avocado on top of a California Roll). The salmon sushi practically melts in your mouth it is that fresh. All this for only $12.99 per person (dinner starts at $19.99).

The service was impeccable, if a bit slow at times. This, however, is because everything is freshly prepared - hardly something to complain about. You can eat as much as you want, everything is the up side of this is that in no way did we feel rushed. Even for those who find the idea of raw seafood less than appetizing, there are a number of Tempura, grilled, and fried items.

Well, your experience is totally different than ours.

There are a bunch of reviews of Sushi Kan at

Please check this out. Most of the comments are negative including mine.

My friends all went to try out and all came back to tell me that they will not return except for one couple. They went on Thursday for lunch and thought it was good value. Another couple went on Mother's Day and told me that everything there was not right including the soy sauce (so salty!). The gyoza was so hard that she had to send back to kitchen.

So far we have only been twice, but truthfully both experiences were great. There were two types of soy sauce available, and yes one was quite salty but the other was fine (pick the one with the green label rather than the red?). We will definitely go back and hope our luck with this restaurant continues.

I agree with the comment that Sushi Kan is a "all-you-can-wait-sushi" place!

My first time and also last time to All-you-can-eat sushi place. I would rather pay extra few bucks to go to a decent Japanese restaurant instead of a place like Sushi Kan. No presentation! Sushi can't be picked up. Food has too much MSG.

We have been again and still like the place. The presentation seems fine to us, particularly since we are going to eat it rather than look at it. The wait is not a problem because we prefer to take our time at a meal (certainly if you need to gobble and go, then this place is not for you). If food additives were a concern - which they are not - we would eat only in restaurants that used organic/natural ingredients. And paying considerably higher prices at other places for dishes where rice is often one of the main ingredients just makes us feel like we are being grossly overcharged. The result being that we will return and you will not.
