Getting high at Whistler

Whistler Resort is set to construct a new lift. Unlike the Symphony Express Chair unveiled this year that opened up a thousand acres of new terrain, this one won't be to get up to a new set of runs. Instead, it will link the two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb.  The "Peak to Peak Gondola" will set a height record, 415 metres (1,316 feet)  at its highest point, and run a length of 4.4 kilometres. Mid-April--- and still snowing!

The annual Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival kicked off at Whistler Resort this past Friday, but some of us weren't there for the entertainment.

Saturday morning saw 22 cm of fresh snow. It was a powdery, but not too powdery, haven for those too few who made their way out of the pubs and up the mountain. Runs were wide-open fields of play. Lift lines were virtually non-existent. The weather ...

The weather forecasts of late show nothing but rain. A record fall of precipitation has added up in the lower mainland in the past few days, and there have been a number of flooding mishaps. But turn those frowns upside down outdoor lovers. When it's raining down below, it's snowing on high.

Both the North Shore mountains and Whistler have felt stellar seasons ...

Start and Finish Your Day at Cypress

Forced awake at 7 am on a Saturday to catch the first run at Cypress, I find myself groggy but enthused. At 8:20, the parking lot is already filling up. At the top of the Eagle Express chair, I see why: surrounding mountains caked with snow, freshly fallen flakes twinkling in the sun, riders' smiles brightening up the hill that much more. An easy ride part-way down Panorama green run, I stop at a ...

Solid Snow Base for Whistler Season Opener

Whistler and Blackcomb mountains are enjoying an awesome start to their winter season. The resort has been pummeled with a 21cm snow drop in the last 24 hours and 51 cm in the last 7 days which has packed a 164cm base for the season start. Not bad for this time of year!
