Far Infrared Sauna @ Fitness World
Has anyone heard about an infrared sauna or, better yet, tried one out? I am here to tell you all about it.
Available at The Spa at Fitness World North Shore, the Far Infrared Sauna is revitalization for a weary mind and body. On your own or with a partner, you sit in a close-quartered wooden stall with glass door. At your back, legs and front, vents smoothly blow out infrared heat to force your body to get its sweat on. And you sure do. For the first thirty of sixty minutes, you feel a little sticky, but at the forty-five minute point you are dripping puddles. All the while you are sitting below small lights the colour of your choosing. Each colour energizes a different chakra in your body. I opted for the red which is said to help with the adrenaline gland, kidneys and lower spine. Unlike other saunas, you spend the time listening to the sound of soft waves hitting a shore. It is possible to also watch a DVD if you'd like. Reading may be difficult as the pages will simply turn soggy with moisture. If all this weren't enough, your hostess, Caroline, pours cool water for you and serves frozen grapes to keep you hydrated.
The experience doesn't end when the hour is up in the sauna. You are led then to a shower to clean away all the toxins pushed out of your system. Your skin feels soft and smooth. After wrapping up in a fluffy robe, you head back to the reception area where a cup of matcha tea is awaiting you. Caroline provides you with a face lotion to add that extra tenderness. I was told I was glowing after all was done. I don't know about that, but I was certainly feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
This may not be an every week sort of event. Though, it is one I will enjoy again. The cost for Fitness World members is $45 per person for one hour. For all others, it is $60. Well worth it, I believe.
I do recommend going out and trying the infrared sauna. Your body and mind will thank you for it.
