The Drive, Continued
Hey ladies,
As promised, here is another one of my ongoing descriptions of places for girls who like girls.
Now it may not seem like much, being just a local neighbourhood pub, but Avantis on the Drive has a lot to be said for it and I will say it here for you:
o New flat screens TVs for watching your favourite sports & a juke box
o Very reasonably priced and decent pub food including daily specials
o Daily beer/drink specials
o Some of the best, if not the best, servers around (be nice, be respectful, and you will not be disappointed)
o Diverse crowd, friendly, good looking staff
o Dartboards
Avantis is not a fancy place, rather, it’s akin to a local pub in the UK, the one that everyone in the neighbourhood gravitates to on a regular basis. Most of the regulars are diverse in nature, income, and style – lots of sports-playing dykes and punky skateboard girls mixed in.
Newcomers are welcome and will not generally feel out of place (if you’re turning heads, it’s because you’re hot!). There’s a mix of brighter and darker spaces here, great for seeing what time of day it is or nursing a sunburn or hangover (their Spicy Caesars are one of the best hangover cures around).
So, if you’re looking for a relaxing pint with great table and bar service, come hang out at Avantis on the Drive.
General tips to keep in mind:
1. Designated smoking spaces become illegal July 1st, 2007 (including patios)
2. Running a tab in a pub/club is a courtesy, not a right – if servers don’t know you from Eve, expect to pay as you go
3. Drinking age is 19 in BC and you must have proper picture ID
4. Tipping is normal & expected in Vancouver, home to some of the best service on the planet (this is not just my very opinionated opinion but a comment I have heard time and time again from visitors from afar)
5. Do not drink any outside alcohol or eat any outside food at any Vancouver venue
Have fun & check back soon for the next venue review!!!
Cheers,
Tanya
