Mid-April--- and still snowing!
The annual Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival kicked off at Whistler Resort this past Friday, but some of us weren't there for the entertainment.
Saturday morning saw 22 cm of fresh snow. It was a powdery, but not too powdery, haven for those too few who made their way out of the pubs and up the mountain. Runs were wide-open fields of play. Lift lines were virtually non-existent. The weather was--
Well, let's say the skies were in a seasonal tug-of-war. From one minute to the next, from top to bottom, we faced all conditions. At the peak, we were above the clouds and basking in the sun. It was so warm, we had the urge to strip down to our base layers. Thank goodness we didn't as mid-mountain the clouds swept in low and cool. It also made visibility almost impossible. But then, suddenly it all turned to a light snowfall. The day went on as thus. Irritated we were a bit, but undaunted nonetheless. We simply wanted to get in those few more rides before season end.
So, if you too would like to take advantage of Whistler's white wonder, and I suggest you do, go for it. Whistler Mountain shuts April 22nd. Blackcomb will be open for spring riding until June.
The Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival runs until April 22nd, as well.
