There's a new Vancouver sushi restaurant!

Sonomama RestaurantVancouver is known for all of it's wonderful sushi restaurants. I've recently discovered a great new sushi restaurant downtown on Granville Street. It is called Sonomama. In Japanese, Sonomama means "as it is" and the chef does a great job of delivering dishes just as they are in Japan (tapas style).

The best time to visit Sonomama is during their cheaper lunch menu which begins at 12:00 p.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. The minute you enter this restaurant you will appreciate the classic, contemporary Japanese design as you fall into their modern padded booths and fill up on delcious set menus for only $4.95. If you can't make it for lunch, they also have a very unique dinner menu which includes their famous baked dynamite roll: crab, avocado & cucumber inside with scallops, baby shrimp, tuna, salmon and sweet asian mushrooms. Like that were not enough, it is then rolled in crunchy tobiko and baked in a spicy dynamite sauce. At $7.95, you definitely have to try it! Their dinner menu ranges from $8.00-$20.00.

For those who want to try something other than the traditional rolls, I suggest having their not so traditional chicken karage. Suprisingly, with a little spice and sweetness added, these wings are served boneless on a bed of spring greens, then tossed in a sweet chili sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds - very pleasing to the eye and mouth. And finally I suggest ordering their Nabeyaki Udon. It's not on their reguar menu, but if you ask for it they will be happy to serve it to you. It has to be the most soul satisfying udon I have eaten in a long time.

So, after a long day of shopping or sightseeing, you should check it out. With their friendly staff and unique menu items, you won't be disappointd Find it at 980 Granville Street, just across the street from Tom Lee Music.
