BookTown: Used Bookstore
I was stocking up on some books the other day and I figured that maybe I should share with everybody my love for good used bookstores. Sure Chapters is great for getting good prices on best-sellers - or pre-ordering copies of the new Harry Potter, but generally, they're books are all way over-priced. Hence the beauty of the used bookstore: most contemporary books range around $10, while classics you can usually get for under $5.
The place I went to the other day was on Columbia St. in New Westminster, called Booktown. The shop contains two floors of well organized books of any genre. I've been reading a lot of classics lately and they had plenty to choose from - pretty well all the necessary authors and their more important, as well as their more obscure titles. I'm no book connoisseur, but they also had a lot of old hardcover versions of these classics that seemed interesting, but a bit unnecessary for what I personally need them for. I'm also happy to say that I found a copy of Chuck Palahniuk's novel, The Haunted - I usually never find him in used book stores.
They also have a website that you can check out at http://www.booktown.ca/ where you can find location and contact information. They also have a section where you can browse through an extensive list of their featured books. And if you can't find what you're looking for, they have a service where if you provide a down-payment of 50%, they will track down a used copy for you. Or if in doubt, feel free to stop in and ask questions - the person I talked to there was very friendly.
Booktown is located at 626 Columbia St. in New Westminster. It is less than a 5 minute walk from New Westminster Skytrain Station and about 10 minutes from Columbia Skytrain Station.
