Arts County Fair, Vancouver

Welcome to UBC's biggest student party of the year - Arts County Fair (aka ACF). ACF is a day of beer, concerts, beer, DJ's and more beer. It is what many students look forward to all year long - the last day of classes! Or the last chance of the school year to not attend class. Either way you look at it, it is a lot of fun.

This years ...

The Japanese garden area at Park & Tilford

Located just over the Second Narrows Bridge on the North Shore, the Park & Tilford Gardens are free and are already starting to bloom with spring flowers. I stopped by for a visit today and found it to be quiet and well maintained. It was sunny out, ...

Vancouver Aquarium - escape the rain and celebrate marine life

clownfish.JPGWith the gallons of water that have been falling from Vancouver's skies recently, what better way to celebrate the city's relationship with all things aquatic than with a visit to the aquarium?

Tucked away in Stanley Park, the aquarium is Canada's largest and is home to 60,000 creatures, including beluga whales, sea otters, dolphins, sharks and jellyfish.

Daily shows are a ...

10 Games Left: Vancouver @ Edmonton

Coming off a spectacular 4-1 win against the powerhouse Detroit Red Wings, the Vancouver Canucks look to extend their post-Christmas success against the struggling Edmonton Oilers.

A matchup with a last-place team, which is perhaps lacking motivation with the season winding down, gives the Canucks a good chance to build a cushion in the Northwest Division. The Edmonton Oilers seem particularly vulnerable right now.

The Canucks, trying to increase their slim lead ...

Try the Laughing Bean

Laughing Bean latteJust a few blocks west of the PNE on Slocan and Hastings Street, there's a great little coffee shop called The Laughing Bean. It's a cozy, independently owned shop that serves yummy fancy lattes and other specialty hot drinks like green tea lattes and hot chocolate. I had a delicious latte the last time I was there and they take ...

11 Games Left: Vancouver vs. Detroit

If you are thinking of attending a Canucks game this season, perhaps Saturday night is the one for you.

With 11 games left in the regular season, the Vancouver Canucks look like their playoff hopes are sealed. The difference between where the Canucks currently sit (first in the Northwest Division) and the playoff cut is a whopping fourteen points.

Let's put this into perspective, shall we?

If the Colorado Avalanche, who are ...

Celtic Festival 2007

In a previous blog, I mentioned the Celtic Festival.  It's Vancouver's way of celebrating St. Patrick's Day and the Irish culture.

One of the main highlights of the festival is the Parade!  Everybody is welcome and it's kid friendly.  It's a great way to celebrate with others and attend a free event!   This year, the event is on March 18th at 11am.   Check out pictures from the 2006 Celtic Festival Parade.  A ...
