Cockney Kings Fish and Chips

picture-002-copy.jpgOkay, so I might be a little biased in my opinion of this restaurant, given that I've been working here for a little over 6 years, but Cockney Kings is by far the best fish and chips around (otherwise I wouldn't be working there for so long). Temporarily relocated within the Royal City Plaza due to a reconstruction project, the restaurant is now located across the parking lot from its previous location (currently where Taco Time used to be). Anybody who comes to visit downtown New Westminster to see Columbia St. or the nearby Quay will definitely want to check out how real fish and chips should be done.

picture-010-copy.jpgAnyone eating at Cockney Kings can expect pleasant and fast service from its oddly energetic staff. The menu has a wide selection of seafood to choose from: including cod, halibut, salmon, prawns, oysters, and recently added calamari. All of our seafood is battered with the trademark Cockney King's special recipe, but can also be grilled or steamed if deep fried is not your preference. There are also chicken strips and meat pies for those who don't eat seafood. Also worth mentioning is the All-You-Can-Eat cod and chips, which is served only on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for $8.95 and comes with bottomless fountain pop. With this special, you'll be loaded up with three pieces of fish, chips, and a drink - and then you're free to ask for as many refills as you like. I think the record number of fish eaten is rumoured at about 18 pieces - although, I can't say that I saw it.

Try to avoid peak dinner hours on busier nights because there can be lineups for dining in. They don't take reservations, but feel free to phone beforehand to find out if the restaurant is busy or not.

Cockney Kings is located about a 5 minute walk away from New Westminster Skytrain Station at 1005 Columbia St., #109, New Westminster.

There is also another location in North Burnaby, which I'm not as familiar with as far as the location, but can be found at: 6574 Hastings Street, Burnaby, BC V5B1S2

I live right near the Cockney Kings in North Burnaby. It's in the Kensington Strip Mall. It's a great restaurant - the fish is always served piping hot. It's delish!

I've never heard of this place. I'll have to check it out!
I'm still trying to find a Fish and Chips restaurant that is comparable to the ones I visited in England. Amazing F+C there (=

I've had a lot of customers from England come in and tell me that they have trouble finding good fish and chip restaurants over there that are as comparable to Cockney Kings. if you make it down, i'd be interested to know what you think.

That's really interesting. I definitely need to check it out now!
