The Atlantic Trap and Gill - live music and pub grub
It can be nigh on impossible to find a pub in Vancouver that
combines raucous Saturday night high spirits with great food, good service and foot-tapping live music.
Luckily for those living or staying within easy reach of downtown, the Atlantic Trap and Gill is a gem.
Every Thursday and Saturday evening, the pub hosts live bands with an East Coast sound. Celtic inspired drum, fiddle and guitar music always make for an entertaining night out.
I've been to this pub several times and tried many of the tasty dishes on the menu, but my favourite has to be the seafood pasta, which comes with a choice of cream or marinara sauce (half and half is my preference).
Fresh seafood specials include mussels and clams, and old favourites include fish and chips, burgers and huge sharing platters. This is not a place to go if you are on a diet!
Beers from Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are also bound to please East Coast visitors to the pub, which opened in 1998 and has branches in Calgary and Edmonton.
It pays off to arrive early on the free live music nights, because it invariably gets packed. But if you are arranging a get-together, birthday party or hen/stag night, the huge tables are ideal for big groups and can be reserved.
With St. Patrick's Day looming on March 17, the Trap and Gill will be the place to go - free entry, live music and prizes throughout the night.
The Atlantic Trap and Gill is at 612 Davie Street (with Seymour). Call 604-806-6393 for more info or visit www.trapandgill.com
