UBC's Museum of Anthropology

Bill Reid's RavenIf there's one place in Greater Vancouver that every visitor should attempt to visit (especially on a rainy day) it most certainly is The Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia.  I can remember several visits throughout my life, and yet I do not think that I have managed to view the entire permanent collection; it is that extensive.  This museum houses some incredible cultural and artistic pieces, that serve to tell the story of this province as well as any guided tour, or guidebook...scratch that the museum does it better.  But the collection is not restricted to British Columbia, there are also pieces from around the world that are permanently displayed within these walls.  My suggestion is to allow at least 3-4 hours to leisurely explore the museum, you can do more than that, but given the vastness of pieces on display, or cataloged for visitor viewing it is very easy for the eyes to glaze over from over-stimulation, and over-exposure.  Bill Reid's sculpture (pictured above) can be found in my recollection to the right of the main atrium, as experienced when you enter the museum.
