Granville Island in the Spring

Granville Island hours of operation

I love Granville Island, but I usually only go once or twice a year in the summer - and that's when we have guests in from out of town to entertain. This week I had a meeting at Granville Island and it reminded me of the first time I came to Vancouver from Calgary. I think I was just finishing high school or it was the first spring break I had at university.

Having come from Calgary at the end of February or the beginning of March, I was amazed that in Vancouver spring had already started. It was hard to believe I was actually in Canada, really. Spring usually doesn't start until late May in Calgary, so this was way ahead of schedule for me. The tulips were up, there were flowers for sale on the street in big buckets, and the temperature was mild. It was a treat.

You don't have to wait in line for food or for the bathrooms - which is a huge bonus. There was the odd busker here and there, so the entertainment factor was small, but still there.

If you're in town from a chilly city in Canada, I think you'll really enjoy yourself here in the next couple of months. And for us locals, it's a nice place to visit in the spring. Granville Island - not just for summer!
