Vancouver welcome the Miss Pole Dance Canada competition
For my birthday last month, a friend of mine took me to a pole dancing lesson! I'd heard from a girl on my hockey team that pole dancing lessons are the latest craze in fitness, and even heard about a friend of a friend who had a pole installed in her house so that she could practice her fitness pole dance moves. So anyway, my friend and I met up one Sunday afternoon at Tantra Fitness, a fitness studio that's located at 1715 Cook St... in an area that seems to be predominantly warehouses. We were there for the "Intro to Pole 101," which is really just a bit of a teaser class - you get about 45 minutes to learn a couple of moves and see if this is the kind of thing that you might be interested in pursuing. And I have to say, it was really, really fun! So much so that I'm seriously considering taking more lessons... I mean, who doesn't want to have lots of fun while improving your fitness level? In addition to 4 levels of pole dancing (the top level of which you get to do learn some pretty amazing acrobatic moves), there are other classes including "Belly Dance," "Booty Camp," "Cardio Striptease" and "Lap Dancing."
Need more evidence that pole dancing is the latest trend? I noticed that another pole dance fitness studio, Pole Dance Studio, has opened up at Davie & Burrard. If I do decide to take more lessons, I will definitely be checking this place out as the location is much more convenient for me than Tantra Fitness. And just the other night I was having dinner with a friend of mine at Nevermind on W. 4th Ave and it turned out that that night they were having pole dancing demonstrations... in a bar/restaurant. And, to top it all off, apparently Miss Pole Dance Canada 2007 is being held at the Caprice (967 Graville St.) on Thursday, March 29th, 2007. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Check their website for more details.
